All conference submissions must be done through PaperPlaza and submitted by the deadline. Authors of accepted papers and posters are expected to attend the ACC and present their work.

Contributed Papers

A contributed paper is intended to be a complete description of finished work. Accepted papers are limited to 6 pages in the conference proceedings at no extra charge; up to 2 extra pages are allowed for a per-page fee. Note that there is no separate short paper format. Please see details below under “Support for Authors” and “Submission and Registration Policies”. There is an option to submit a paper for publication in L-CSS and present it at ACC. Submissions to L-CSS are strictly limited to 6 pages. Additional details on submission policies can be found on the journal web page.

Note that at ACC 2027, contributed papers will be presented at the conference in either a traditional presentation session (up to 6 papers in each session, with 15-minute presentation for each paper) or a rapid interactive (RI) session (up to 20 papers in each session, with 3-minute presentation for each paper and then in a 45-minute poster session). Details on which type of presentation format accepted papers will be presented in will be announced when the program is created after the final submission date.

Invited Sessions

The ACC 2027 Organizing Committee invites proposals for high-quality invited sessions. Invited sessions should present a coherent technical theme and include contributions that collectively advance understanding of the selected topic.

Consistent with prior ACC guidance, an invited session typically consists of 5-6 papers organized around a unifying theme. Proposals should clearly describe the session motivation, technical relevance, and expected contribution to the ACC community. Each invited-session proposal should be accompanied by the full versions of the papers, which will be reviewed individually together with the overall session proposal.

A strong invited session proposal should:

  • Address a timely and well-defined theme in control theory, systems, or applications.
  • Include papers that are technically connected but not repetitive.
  • Represent a diversity of viewpoints, institutions, methods, or application domains.
  • Clearly explain why the topic is important to the ACC audience.
  • Identify session organizers who can coordinate the submission, review, and final session presentations process.

Topics may span all areas of automatic control, including but not limited to control theory, robotics and autonomy, cyber-physical systems, transportation, energy systems, biological and medical systems, aerospace systems, manufacturing, learning-enabled control, optimization, estimation, safety, resilience, and human-centered systems.

All invited session proposals and associated papers must be submitted through the ACC submission system at PaperPlaza.

Authors and organizers should ensure that all papers follow ACC manuscript formatting, page-limit, and submission policies. Papers included in invited sessions are reviewed individually, and acceptance of the session depends on both the quality of the individual papers and the coherence of the overall session.

Accepted invited sessions will be scheduled as part of the ACC 2027 technical program. The final program page will list accepted invited sessions by day and time, including session title, chair/co-chair, organizers, room assignment, and paper information.

Questions regarding ACC 2027 invited sessions may be directed to the Vice Chair for Invited Sessions: Pingen Chen (pchen23@utk.edu).

Special Sessions

Prospective organizers are invited to submit proposals for special sessions at ACC 2027. A special session proposal should include a brief description of the session, clearly indicating the topic(s) to be covered, the motivation and relevance to the controls community, and the names and affiliations of the invited speakers who will present in the session.

Special sessions are intended to highlight emerging research directions, interdisciplinary topics, or areas of significant current interest. They typically consist of invited presentations, discussions, and/or panels. Special Sessions do not include papers that are peer-reviewed and published in the conference proceedings.

Proposals must be submitted electronically through ACC 2027 submission website. Each proposal will be evaluated based on its technical merit, timeliness, coherence, and the qualifications of the proposed speakers.

For questions or to discuss potential special session topics, prospective organizers are encouraged to contact the Vice Chair for Special Sessions, Kyriakos Vamvoudakis (kyriakos@gatech.edu).

Tutorial Sessions

We welcome tutorial proposals on all topics related to control systems. For ACC 2027, we especially encourage proposals that explore intersections between control and fields such as artificial intelligence, neuroscience, social science, and finance. Examples of these topics include:

  • Large Language Models (LLMs) and their intersections with control and dynamical systems
  • Multi-agent AI systems and multi-agent interactions
  • Safety, alignment, and governance of autonomous control systems
  • Applications of dynamics and control techniques to societal challenges, such as poverty alleviation

Tutorial submissions consist of a two-stage process: an initial tutorial proposal submission followed, upon acceptance, by the submission of a tutorial paper. The submission must be uploaded through the PaperPlaza conference submission system before the due date given in the PaperPlaza.

Initial Proposal Submission (October): Organizers are only required to submit a brief tutorial session proposal outlining:

  • Tutorial title and purpose statement
  • Content description with learning outcomes and prerequisites
  • Organizer and speaker information
  • Detailed session timeline for the 1.5-hour format
  • Target audience

A full tutorial paper is not required during this initial submission stage. Submitted proposals will be reviewed based on relevance and timeliness.

Tutorial Paper Submission: Invited organizers are required to submit a full tutorial paper (between 4 to 18 pages in standard ACC format). The tutorial paper will serve as the primary educational resource for your tutorial, and should provide comprehensive coverage of the topic for the intended audience. The content should be pedagogically sound, technically accurate, and accessible to practitioners and researchers who may not be experts in your specific area. The following list provides suggested components of the tutorial paper, but authors are not required to follow this structure strictly:

  • Abstract and introduction with motivation and scope
  • Comprehensive technical content with mathematical formulations and illustrative figures
  • Literature review with diverse, current references
  • Illustrative examples and real-world applications
  • Conclusions with future directions and open problems

The submitted tutorial paper will then be reviewed for quality and publication readiness before final publication.

If you have any questions, please contact the ACC 2027 Tutorial Sessions Vice Chair, Yorie Nakahira (yorie@cmu.edu).

Workshops

We solicit proposals for half-day or full-day workshops to be held as part of the 2027 American Control Conference (ACC) in Philadelphia, PA. Workshops will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2027 preceding the main conference program from July 7-9, 2027.

The aim of the conference workshops is to emphasize emerging topics of particular interest to the conference attendees. Proposals for workshops addressing novel control methodologies and control applications as well as workshops with strong tutorial value are encouraged.

Workshop proposals can be submitted through Paperplaza. Each workshop proposal should include:
(1) Title of the workshop;
(2) Description of the technical issues covered, emphasizing the timeliness of the proposed workshop;
(3) Workshop organizers (names, affiliation and contact information);
(4) Tentative names of proposed speakers, and a tentative agenda;
(5) Duration of workshop (half day vs. full day);
(6) Estimated number of attendees and preferred room setting;
(7) If appropriate, a description of past versions of the workshop.

If you have any questions, please contact the ACC 2027 Workshops Chair, Gabor Orosz (orosz@umich.edu).

AACC AI Policies

The use of LLM tools should be governed by three important principles: ownership, transparency, and disclosure. Authors may use LLM in conducting the research (e.g., for literature review) but should take full responsibility for any output and its use, particularly because LLM tools are known to generate false statements. In addition, authors should make sure that the reproducibility of the research is maintained (e.g. when LLM is used to generate synthetic data). LLM tools should not be listed as authors or co-authors since authorship implies ownership and responsibility for the work. Any manuscript that uses LLM to conduct the research or for composing and editing text shall be transparent on how such tools have been used. It is at the discretion of Editorial Boards to determine if the use of LLM is appropriate and if the authors have made a significant enough contribution to warrant publication. Transparency implies that the manuscript should include a detailed description of how LLM has been used and for exactly which tasks and specific parts of the text. Similarly, if images, artwork, or synthetic data by LLM tools have been used, the manuscript should provide details on the exact use and process. Finally, authors should disclose the use of LLM tools by citing these tools in the reference section. Similarly, when generating posters and conference presentations, the use of LLM tools should be disclosed and proper references given.
